NATIONAL TREE DAY
For National Tree Day we went for a nature walk in our local wood ‘Derrycrag Wood’ with Coillte.

Science Fun

Erupting volcanoes

Investigating how plants absorb water

We did a project on the effects of plastic on our environment. We researched the life of a plastic bottle. We learned about how it is made and we found out about the many uses of plastic bottles. We discovered that plastic bottles can cause pollution if we dispose of them incorrectly. If plastic bottles end up in the sea, they can have harmful effects on our sea life. We made posters and displayed them around the school to encourage other students to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic bottles.

 Maths Week Fun
Our school participated in Maths week 2018.

Science Speaker visits our school
On Thursday 11th April, Catherine and Francis, two Community Water Officers with the Environment section of Galway County Council came to our school. They gave a presentation to second class, third class, fourth class, fifth class and sixth class about our marine environment. They brought us to Woodford Bay where they told us about marine life in the Woodford area. We got samples from the bay and we identified creatures such as the mayfly, water shrimp and bloodworms. It was a very informative day and we really enjoyed it.
