March 2016
Hi Everyone,
The Green
School’s Committee is back with our first newsletter of 2016. We are making
progress with our latest theme ‘Global Citizenship – Litter and Waste’.
Mark Molloy
from Galway County Council called to the school on Thursday 28th
January to discuss how we are all global citizens. Therefore, as global
citizens we have both rights and responsibilities. One of our most important
responsibilities is to protect the environment. He will continue working with
us during the year to help us progress towards our 6th Green flag.
In order to
really promote the ‘Global Citizenship – Litter and Waste’ theme within the
school, we recently took part in Fairtrade Fortnight. On Thursday 3rd
March 2016 the Green Schools committee organized a Fair Trade Day. The
committee made a special presentation to the whole school to inform the
children of the event during Assembly. We set up a stand and organized lots of
fun activities to inform and promote awareness children and parents about Fair
Trade.
Fair Trade Day
We hope to
organize a CLEAN UP Day in the coming months in collaboration with An Taisce’s
National Spring Clean. The children will organize a clean-up around the school.
Parents will also be welcome to help with this day. It would be hoped that
having a CLEAN UP Day during the school year will encourage more people to
dispose of their waste correctly. We will let you know more about this day
closer to the time!

In order to
promote awareness of water conservation, we held a Poster competition in the
school. Students had to design a poster on the theme ‘Be Water Smart’.
